Health Shield host three local charities at Aberdeen Football Club's victory over Rangers

On Sunday 23 April, we had the pleasure of hosting three local charities, Aberdeen Cyrenians, VSA and AberNecessities at Pittodrie Stadium, the home of Aberdeen Football Club to support Aberdeen in their match against Rangers.

Hosting local charities is a great way to show support and appreciation for the valuable work they do in the community. This not only brings attention to their cause, but it also creates a fun and memorable experience for the members of the charity. The charities were selected based on their commitment to making a positive impact in the community, and we were honoured to have them as our guests.

As the guests arrived to Pittodrie, they were given a warm welcome by the AFC team and escorted to their table where they were able to enjoy their VIP hospitality experience. Each guest was given an Aberdeen supporters scarf as a special keepsake of the day. We also hosted a young fan who was gifted a special kit with her name printed on the back and who knows, maybe we’ll see Maddie playing for Aberdeen ladies team in the future! This was a small gesture, but we hope it shows our appreciation for the work they do in delivering essential services to the local community.

Donna Hutchinson, Head of Corporate and Business Services, Aberdeen Cyrenians said “Maddie was very excited and couldn’t wait to get moving in her new strip however removing the Frozen sunglasses wasn’t an option – maybe a new addition to the team strip next year! Our thanks to Health Shield for the hospitality at what was a great event, topped off by a great result! Being able to share the table with two other charities who we already work closely with – Aber Necessities and VSA – was a great opportunity for us to catch up and discuss further ways we can collaborate to continue to support the vital care and support for vulnerable people in the Northeast”.

Health Shield are the Official Health and Wellbeing Partner of Aberdeen Football Club, who were celebrating their 120th Anniversary, looking back at the history and heritage of the club. Heritage is very important to us as we started back in 1877, way before the NHS, helping railway workers keep their health on track. Today, we’re still steaming ahead, with over 380,000 members and their families benefiting from our services. We are proud to have supported Aberdeen as part of their special celebration.

Sarah McColl, Partnership Manager, AFC said “It was an honour to host three leading Aberdeen Charities recently on behalf of our Official Health and Wellbeing Partners Health Shield. This partnership enables us to take a holistic approach to health and wellbeing at the Club and to support and encourage our communities and fans. Bringing together three charities for a matchday experience not only gave back to the volunteers, staff and supporters of these wonderful causes, it also provided the opportunity to discuss shared objectives, identify synergies and potential ways of working better together for our communities. The main aim of this partnership is to make a positive difference and if we can encourage our fans, staff and others to live a healthier lifestyle then that is a significant step in the right direction.”

Overall, it was a fantastic day for everyone involved, topped off by a victory for Aberdeen over Rangers. Paul Shires, Commercial Director, Health Shield said “It was great to be involved in a special day celebrating the history and heritage of Aberdeen Football Club and we were pleased to offer three charities local to Aberdeen a VIP hospitality experience as a token of appreciation for the work they do in their community. Heritage is important to us at Health Shield and for over 145 years, we’ve helped our members to stay in the best of health”.

Our team was honoured to be able to support these wonderful organisations and we encourage other businesses to consider hosting local charities at events – not only does it create a memorable experience for the charity members, but it also helps to raise awareness and support for the important work they do in our communities.
